Mini-Cassia

Visitors can find the Mini-Cassia Visitor Center in Heyburn for information on sight seeing, over night stays and all events nearby. Mini-Cassia is short for Minidoka and Cassia County – home of City of Rocks, Burley, Rupert, Mount Harrison and the Snake River. The Visitor’s Center is located next to the gorgeous Heyburn Riverside Park where you can walk along the river and enjoy views of the mountains and Snake River. They also have great local gifts and souvenirs. Hours for the Mini-Cassia Visitors Center are Monday through Friday 9AM-5PM.

Activities

The Mini-Cassia area has something for everyone from exploring nature to learning history! There are four state and national parks within the counties as well as a ski resort! Festivals, celebrations, fairs, and even triathlons take place every year at numerous locations. There are 12 cities and towns total that make up Minidoka and Cassia County.

The Snake River is perfect for boating. There are multiple marinas around the area, so stop into the Visitor’s Center and they will let you know where to go next! During the winter months Pomerelle Mountain Resort is a wonderful place to visit with family. The mountain is wonderful for beginners or advanced. Our favorite part of Pomerelle Mountain is that it is hardly ever crowded!

Cities

Albion

The City of Albion is one of adorable, quaint towns to visit! It sits at the bottom of Mt. Harrison and is a quick drive to the mountains. Within the town of Albion itself lies interesting history including a haunted campus known as the former Albion State Normal School. Many paranormal occurrences are reported by visitors.  You can stay overnight or visit a spookier campus during the month of October!

Almo

Almo is another great town to visit in the southern area of Mini Cassia. The City of Rocks National Reserve and Castle Rocks State Park are perfect to explore. This historic town has a ranching and pioneer heritage. Within the parks are amazing sights to see like pictographs drawn on rocks as well as signatures from pilgrims years ago!

Burley

Burley is the county seat for Cassia County as well as an agricultural, retail and distribution center. This is because it is located right on the Snake River! The residents and tourists enjoy water activities almost year round plus Pomerelle Mountain Resort is only a quick drive away to ski and snowboard!

Rupert

Rupert is an incredible town that you cannot miss out on! Their newly renovated downtown square is a hidden gem. There are many local shops to support around the square plus a beautiful historic building, the Wilson Theatre. Events occur often in downtown Rupert. North of Rupert is Lake Walcott State Park where plenty of fishing and camping opportunities lie. They also have a 18 hole world class disc golf course located right by the lake.

Heyburn and others

The City of Heyburn is north of the Snake River. Heyburn is centrally located and allows easy access to visitors between Minidoka and Cassia County. The rest of the towns in the region are Acequia, Elba, Declo, Malta, Minidoka, Oakley, and Paul. Each equally unique and as interesting to visit as the others.

The Mini Cassia Chamber of Commerce manages the Visitor Center and is a great resource for travelers. They are a wealth of knowledge on area recreation and site seeing. The chamber is the ultimate business resource in the Minidoka and Cassia Counties and would be sure to have tips for the best places to eat and shop.
