Idaho snow is no joke! Over a foot of snow can accumulate in less than 24 hours, making some of the best powder out there.
A great place to snowmobile is north of Fairfield, Idaho. Fairfield offers wide open spaces to ride. The small town sits at the base of the Sawtooths. Soldier Mountain Ski Resort is located in these mountains as well.
The area is not busy, making it an awesome place to ride freely. The runs near Fairfield are groomed weekly and regularly from December to March, depending on the year. There are thousands of acres for the whole family to play. Because most runs are groomed, there are trails for any level of snowmobiler. For the more experienced, Fairfield offers great hills to climb of all heights!
Another perk to sledding in this area includes access to the warming hut! The shelter is located North of Well’s Summit in Camas County. It is a beautiful little place to warm up and take a break from the day of sledding. There are even Hot Springs located nearby. Worswick Hot Springs are accessible by snowmobile on non-groomed paths. Well’s Summit is the best place to park when sledding to Worswick Hot Springs.
There are many parking areas to easily navigate to from U.S. 20. Couch Summit Parking Lot north of Fairfield; Wells Summit Parking Lot also north of Fairfield; Chimney Creek Parking Lot, about 10 miles west of Fairfield; and the Gooding County Snow Park, at the Gooding-Camas county line about 20 miles to the north of Gooding.

Dan and Mona, the owners of the Prairie Inn, love to take travelers out when staying at their hotel for a couple of nights. Dan stated that his favorite run is Chimney Creek. They have all the advice needed to have a successful, fun snowmobiling trip!
Don’t forget to grab a map of the groomed trails at the Fairfield Ranger District. This map features 220 groomed miles to explore, plus off-trail areas! The Camas County Chamber of Commerce also has a winter recreation map to assist in finding trail heads and local favorites.
