En la época de sus más riesgosas hazañas, nada intimidaba al notorio acróbata en motocicleta Evel Knievel, ni siquiera el vasto cañón del Snake River, con 500 pies (152 m) de profundidad y 2,640 de ancho (804 m), que intentó saltar con una motocicleta aérea a vapor en septiembre de 1974.

Aunque Knievel chocó en el intento a causa de una falla en su paracaídas, sobrevivió con tan sólo una fractura en su nariz, un mero rasguño para un hombre que se había fracturado casi 40 huesos a lo largo de su carrera, incluso su espalda siete veces. Knievel falleció el 30 de noviembre, 2007 después de una enfermedad prolongada. Pero su legado sigue vivo en la zona de Twin Falls y en todo el mundo.

La rampa de tierra de donde Knievel saltó todavía se ve al borde del cañón del Snake River a unas dos millas (3.2 km) al este del centro de visitantes de Twin Falls. La rampa está dentro de propiedad privada, pero el público pude verla desde el centro de visitantes o acercarse a unos 100 metros del sitio por el sendero Centennial que comienza en las cataratas Shoshone. El sendero está pavimentado, pero incluye algunas pendientes empinadas. Tiene 1.8 millas (2.9 km) y brinda una grandiosa oportunidad de ver la perspectiva de Knievel aquel 8 de septiembre, 1974.
