Welcome to Southern Idaho

Parks, golf courses, and docks follow the Snake river as it winds through the region. The canyon walls frame the setting for fishing, rafting, and waterskiing. Small-town America lives here with friendly faces at every turn. Discover antique stores, museums, fairs, and festivals. Enjoy our art galleries, wine tastings, concert halls, and jazz shows.

Small Town Appeal - Southern idaho

Small town appeal, this is what we are. Our streets are filled with quaint coffee shops, art galleries, quilt shops, antique stores, wine shops and the friendliest peopkle in the USA. Southern Idaho has not been spoiled by the masses, but we'll be glad to see you!

City of Rocks National Reserve and Castle Rocks State Park

City of Rocks is one of the premier climbing areas in the country! Great places to hike, climb, ride horseback or gaze at true geological wonders. Experience the historic California Trail and early ranching heritage. Open year round, call ahead for winter access.

Craters of the Moon National Monument

The moon-like landscape comes to life. See evidence of the Earth's amazing forces. In spring the wildflowers soften the lava, and during the winter you can cross-country ski or snowshoe among the timeless features.

Shoshone Falls and Dierkes Lake Park

Surrounded by canyon vistas, Shoshone Falls tumbles 212 feet to the Snake River below. Higher than Niagra Falls, the falls are best viewed in the spring. The park is open year-round from 7am to 9pm. At neighboring Dierkes Lake, you can go hiking, rock-climbing, swimming, fishing or just enjoy the beauty!

Thousand Springs State Park

Travel the Thousand Springs Scenic Byway between Buhl and Hagerman; spring water flowing from the canyon walls is cleary visible. The Snake River Plain aquifer flows 1,308 miles beneath volcanic rock before reaching the cliffs. Hatcheries along the way raise 70 percent of trout in the US.

Lake Walcott National Wildlife Refuge

Go birding, hiking or fishing at the beautiful park and wildlife refuge with over 20,000 acres of water, wetlands and sagebrush uplands for wildlife. Lake Walcott State Park features camping and picnic areas and boat launch facilities beneath groves of cottonwood trees.

The Idaho International Dance and Music Festival

A festival of color, energy, and magic! The Idaho International Dance and Music Festical offers great pageantry music and culture - all set in the beauty of an Idaho summer. The festival takes place during the 4th week of July in Burley, Idaho!

What's Going On

Thousand Springs State Park - Worth Saving

Niagara Springs Welcome 2010 - we hope this New Year is one of hope, peace and one where we truly work with each other to accomplish things for the collective good. The last little while many of us have focused our efforts to prevent the closure of  Thousand Springs State Park.  The collective units of this Park represent the best of our area…fishing, hiking, history, spectacular scenery and of course water - the lifeblood of our Valley. The  unique experiences offered are intrinsic to Idahoans and a gift we offer to guests of our state. Have you seen the Devil at the Devil’s Washbowl, enjoyed a hike along Billingsley Creek, enjoyed the splendor of Niagara Springs or fished at Crystal Lake?  The St Patrick's Day Run at Malad Gorge means spring is here and the Thousand Springs Festival in September attracts thousands of visitors to historic Ritter IslandThese are only a few of the experiences that could be lost if Thousand Springs State Park is closed.  We need your help - please contact Governor Butch Otter  or our Legislators mbell@house.idaho.gov or dcameron@senate.idaho.gov  and tell them how much Thousand Springs Park means to you and also how integral Idaho Parks and Recreation is to the management of  all our State Parks.   You can send your comments to contact@visitsouthidaho.com  or just comment on our  blog; we'll pass them on. Margaret Mead said -  "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. "   Be Safe* Be Happy * and we'll see you soon in Southern Idaho!
