I stopped into Twin a few weeks ago and pulled over just in time to see a jumper! It was very cool. Looks like a rush. Can anyone tell me when they are doing the B.A.S.E. jumping off the Twin Falls bridge?
Is there a time or day that a person is more likely to see jumpers? Maybe meet someone and learn about the sport?
On a clear day; non-windy day, most the times on warm days the BASE jumpers are at the Perrine Bridge. You can visit the Buzz Langdon Visitors Center adjacent to the Bridge; the BASE jumpers repack their chutes or grab refreshments there.
Scaudio - a good time to view alot of BASE jumpers all at once will be on Labor Day Weekend, Sept 7, 8 & 9. There will be a Bridge Festival that weekend with lots of jumpers, vendors and fun. I would recommend that you stay at Red Lion Hotel Canyon Springs while you are here.
Red Lion Hotel Canyon Springs also has a great Local Attraction package this summer. It has a complimentary coupon to Shoshone Falls and the Faulkner Planetarium, and other great discount coupons to NazzKart, Valley View Lavendar Farm, and The Outpost. Other info is also included such as the Hagerman Scenic Byway, City of Rocks, Schiermeier Taxidermy, and how to get to Balanced Rock. You can call the hotel at 208-734-5000 and ask about the Local Attractions package. You’ll want to plan on staying at the Red Lion for a couple of nights to do it all. It’s a great way to explore Southern Idaho this summer.
Take the Thousand Springs Scenic Byway from Twin Falls to Filer to Buhl…Highway 30…to Hagerman…stop at Thousand Springs Resort…right on the Snake River…when it is so hot…it is a great place to cool off…and the pool is great too. The new owners of the resort are really working hard to update it and are friendly and their prices are great!!! Drive into Hagerman and don’t miss eating at the Snake River Grille…probably one of the best places in the valley to eat!!
Stop at the Historical Museum and see and touch history…
this is one of the great drives in South Central Idaho…don’t miss it!
Up-to-the-minute information about wildfires for visitors and the public is available on the main page of this site. There are two links as both sites are well-used. Southern Idaho Tourism, in cooperation with the Idaho Division of Tourism is providing the links to the interagency websites listing all active fires in Idaho and surrounding states. “The link will remain active throughout the remainder of the fire season in order that the public and visitors have access to accurate and current information about the fires,” states Debbie Dane, Executive Director. “We encourage the public and visitors to log on to the website for information and to pay attention to the public information reports from the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management released to the media for the most current information.”
A Reason To Celebrate in South Central Idaho
Communities commemorate everything from cars to spuds
About 1,300 people take part in the Spudman Triathalon, which involves swimming, running and biking.
More than 13,000 spectators attended the 2006 Joe Mama’s Car Show in Jerome. Not bad for a city with a population of only 8,500. Joe Mama’s is this weekend, August 18, 2007…don’t miss it!
Joe Mama’s is one of nearly 25 community festivals and special events that occur each year throughout Southern Idaho. These annual occurrences have names such as Magic Valley Dairy Days, Blues at Billingsley Creek, Hagerman Fossil Days, Idaho Regatta, Hispanic Fiesta, Fourth of July at Rupert Square and the Jerome Live History Days.
“Joe Mama’s gets a lot of attention because of its interesting name and because it has become Idaho’s biggest annual car show,” says Elizabeth Thomas, executive director of the Jerome Chamber of Commerce. “The 2006 event had an incredible 661 entries. It has turned into an amazing one-day showcase for Jerome.”
Speaking of Jerome, the city will focus attention in 2007 on its 100th anniversary. The Jerome Centennial kicked off with a New Year’s Eve gala Dec. 31, 2006, and there are many special events scheduled through September 2007.
“Those events will include a Cinco de Mayo Festival, a Fourth of July Fireworks Night and a Founders Day Observance,” Thomas says.
Another Southern Idaho tradition that has been garnering plenty of attention in recent years is the annual Spudman Triathlon. It was first organized 20 years ago as a fundraiser for the Burley Lions Club’s eyesight and hearing projects.
“We have boomed in the last two years, with our endurance race attracting 1,300 competitors each year,” says Scott Bloxham, race director for the Spudman Triathlon. “Plus, with all the family members who accompany the racers into Magic Valley, we probably have 5,000 visitors during that July weekend who are spending their money at local restaurants and hotels.”
The Spudman Triathlon consists of a one-mile swim, a 25-mile bike ride beginning at Riverfront Park, and a six-mile run that culminates at Riverfront Park.
“The best racers finish in less than two hours,” Bloxham says. “It’s an exciting event for competitors and spectators.”
In Buhl, Sagebrush Days are held each year over the Fourth of July holiday. The festival celebrates the town’s ranching and agricultural heritage, and annually attracts more than 4,000 spectators.
“There are activities such as bull riding, tractor pulls, anvil firing and an antique engine show,” says John O’Connor, president of the Buhl Chamber of Commerce. “And, by the way, Buhl organizes more than Sagebrush Days every year. We also stage an annual Trout Festival, this year, the Trout Festival is September 15, and of course will pay tribute to our signature product.”
Paul, I hope everyone realizes that the fires we’re experiencing in Idaho effect a tiny fraction of Idaho’s 53.5 million acres of land. There are plenty of wonderful vacation opportunities around the Gem State that are totally unaffected by the fire and smoke currently concentrated in the central part of the state. You can learn more about things to see and do at the state tourism web site www.visitidaho.org
Just to remind you all that spring skiing is great!
Pommerelle is open daily until April 6 and we will keep you posted if they are open weekends after that!
Does anyone know if there are any Cinco de Mayo celebrations in the Treasure Valley this year? I am especially interested in knowing if there will be any car shows I can attend. Thanks!

There is a Cinco de Mayo celebration in Caldwell on May 3, I’m not sure if there is a car show…it is at Gabiola Field and you would need to call the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce.
www.graffitiweekend.com This should be fun. NASCAR Camping World will be racing on Friday night with a show and shine for the first 100 custom hot rods.
Southern Idaho is a generic geographical term roughly analogous with the areas of the U.S. state of Idaho located in the Mountain Time Zone. It particularly refers to the combined areas of the Boise metropolitan area, the Magic Valley and Eastern Idaho.Major cities in southern Idaho include Boise, Nampa, Meridian, Pocatello, Idaho Falls and Twin Falls. These twin falls are famous and very very beautiful its good place to visit in the vacation for sending holidays over there.
